This year LPCCD launched a new program – The Green Collar Apprenticeship Program (GreenCAP). With a commitment to clean energy, sustainable development and well-paying jobs in mind, the program will aid the creation of a local, skilled green collar workforce. GreenCAP will train Newark residents including veterans, underserved young people and formerly incarcerated men and women in the construction trades of HVAC, plumbing and electrical. It is designed to promote individuals from entry level construction workers to laborers. Current partners include the City of Newark, YouthBuild Newark, NewarkWorks, The New Jersey Institute for Social Justice and Essex County Technical and Vocational High Schools. Participants will receive classroom training, apprenticeship and onsite training on green construction methods. What makes the program so unique? GreenCAP prepares individuals in the community to participate in the emerging green economy and earn livable wages. Lincoln Park Music Festival
LPCCD strives to develop audiences’ appreciation for contemporary, traditional and emerging artists by producing an annual music festival that further supports community revitalization efforts. Our goal is to present performances and multi-disciplinary expressions of outstanding artistic quality. In 2007, the Lincoln Park Music Festival welcomed over 15,000 people over four days celebrating jazz, gospel, house and old school hip-hop music. This year, expect more of the same, but better! Don’t miss performances by James Moody, The Clark Sisters, DJ Joe Claussell, Rock Steady crew and many more through July 25-27, 2008. Be sure to join the email list to receive updates!
