Who We Are

Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District (LPCCD) is transforming a low-income neighborhood in Newark, New Jersey from blighted lots into an urban eco-arts village. Leading the revitalization of an emerging arts and cultural district, LPCCD is a model which demonstrates the nation’s best practices in sustainable urban development. The project includes US Green Building Council (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified housing units, green collar jobs, music festivals, historic restoration projects and the Museum of African American Music, a Smithsonian Affiliate.

An urban eco-village comes
to Lincoln Park!

On April 28, 2010, Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District and The Ingerman Group broke ground on a $21 million project to construct sixty-six units of USGBC LEED certified affordable housing in the Lincoln Park arts and cultural district located in Newark’s Central ward. The project encompasses four locations that will offer a mix of 1, 2, and 3 bedroom affordable rental units. The project is scheduled for completion in the Spring of 2011.  The City of Newark, New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency (HMFA) low income tax credit program, TD Bank, JP Morgan Chase, Enterprise Community Partners, and the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York have provided funding for this initiative.  Introducing the RAM Gallery

The Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District and Art in the Atrium are proud to announce the grand opening of Newark's freshest contemporary art space, the Russell Aldo Murray Gallery (RAM Gallery). The RAM Gallery will be the only fine art gallery in the City of Newark with a primary focus on African American Art. Located at 460 Washington Street in Newark, the RAM Gallery was named for Newark's own artist, teacher, curator and friend, Russell Aldo Murray, a founding member of Art in the Atrium that passed away in 2009. The intimate and chic space calls upon the spirit of the "Coast," a thriving mecca of jazz clubs and nightlife that lined the block between 1925 and 1950. As a subsidiary of the Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District, the RAM Gallery is a proud Smithsonian Institution affiliate.  Read more...

Green Collar Job Training

GreenCAP Launch

In February 2008, LPCCD launched a new program – The Green Collar Apprenticeship Program (GreenCAP). With a commitment to clean energy, sustainable development and well-paying jobs in mind, the program will aid the creation of a local, skilled green collar workforce. Local residents in the program installed solar panels on LPCCD's first housing project.

In Spring 2009, LPCCD launched a second green job program, the Green Job Training Program (GJTP) in partnership with the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
